Two In The Ink tattoo parlor owner Stan Kiddick was the first to make the announcement but others have all followed suit. " We're not doing it anymore," he said, head in his hands.
Stan represents the local tattoo artists guild and they've been discussing the ban for some time.
"We're artists," he said. "We didn't get into this business to just be drawing Big Dippers on peoples calves every day. We're hoping that this will spur new ideas from the public."
Larry Allen, owner of Anchorage Tattoo Studio is all in on the new ban. "If I never have to do another freaking mountain on someone's belly or those stupid rings on a finger, I'll be a happy man," he said.
The ban covers the following:
Mountains
Big Dipper
Fish (especially salmon)
Trees
Ravens
Rings on fingers
The phrase "Where The Mountains Meet The Sea"
But the list will continue to grow. As the guild continues to get more cliche requests, they plan to expand the list as needed to keep their sanity.
Currently, no piercings have been added but it's likely only a matter of time before those start getting added as well.
