"Can't be too careful," former Anchorage Mayor Berkowitz said as he loaded orange juice into his reusable bag with gloves hands. The former politician who instituted mask mandates during the pandemic says he never leaves his house without donning a cheap medical mask.
Since resigning as mayor, he's largely stayed out of the limelight and spends most of his time managing his restaurants and hiding out in his basement.
"It hasn't been much fun but at least I seldom get sick! Frankly, I think anyone that is willing to risk catching a sniffle is crazy. If it were up to me, the city would still be locked down," he said.
He did say that whenever he travels out of state, he doesn't wear a mask but didn't say why that was the case.
