With the November election steadily approaching, both sides of Ballot Measure 2 are rushing to get their message out to voters.
We reached out to Transparent Elections, a dark money group based in China for comment but only received an email response: "We here at Transparent Elections believe in election transparency and we support No On 2 because if RCV is repealed, veterans, vegetarians and veterinarians will be barred from voting as they were until two years ago. We cannot go back!"
It has been widely reported that Transparent Elections has funneled dozens of millions of dollars into the state to support No On 2.
The biggest complaint from voters about RCV is that it's too confusing. Many people admit to voting for just one candidate, filling in the same candidate multiple times, writing in their own name (thinking it was a signature line) and being unable to figure out how to open the envelope.
Donna Lumly, a volunteer with Yes On 2, sat down with us at that Subway in Palmer kind of near downtown to discuss the issue. "We just can't handle the volume of calls that come through on election day," she said while munching on one of those new foot long cookies. "Despite the millions spent by the state on educating people, republicans just can't seem to figure it out." Donna went on to explain that up to 30% of republican voters admit to being so frustrated that they throw the ballot in the trash and just keep complaining nonstop until the next election cycle.
